How do individual child differences influence infant and early childhood mental health?
During this third event of the series, Noelle Hause focuses on the eighth IECMH Guiding Principle: Each infant is unique. The broad range of individual differences among children contributes to variability in the timing of developmental milestones.
It's important to recognize each child's individual characteristics, even though they have no control over them. While a child is never responsible for a caregiver’s well-being, caregivers may perceive and react to a child’s traits in different ways. IECMH professionals need to consider the unique attributes a child brings to their relationships to understand the complex adaptations made by the child and their caregivers. How can we balance these individual characteristics with the various contexts in which children live and interact? How can we support these unique traits within our scope of work?
Listen in as Noelle and her guest Katrina Macasaet discuss these questions and more. Reflect on opportunities for you to put this IECMH Guiding Principle into action. Consider the use of various strategies as they apply to your scope of work.
