As a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Cecilia Amigo has focused on the study and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorder.
Dr. Amigo developed ¡PICA!— a parent-mediated intervention program for preschoolers at risk for autism. In 2023, the program was honored with Premio Euro, a prestigious Latin American award for health innovation. She recently founded PICA Institute, where she works as part of an interdisciplinary team helping parents develop skills to address children’s everyday challenges.
She is a former assistant professor of the child and adolescent psychiatry academic unit of the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de la República Uruguay. She is also certified in DIR/Floortime®, a developmental, individual-differences and relationship-based model that provides a foundational framework for understanding human development and learning how individuals uniquely perceive and interact with the world.
